Sunday in Shibuya

This weekend was a good one! We were finally free from classroom stuff, so we were able to do whatever we wanted. 

We spent some of Saturday looking at the used car lots near base trying to find a car for Wednesday when we get our licenses. We also went house hunting! We looked at a few different houses and found one that met all of the things on our list, yahoo!! We really anticipated being in the Navy Lodge for quite a long time, but we're really excited to get into our own place and get Sam back! We move in Thursday, pictures to come!

Sunday we ventured to Shibuya (part of the Tokyo metropolitan area):

We bought a tandem bike!!! For everyone wondering: YES it is AWESOME! I love it!

We went to Shibuya on Sunday! This is the busiest pedestrian crosswalk in the world! 

Hachikō statue in Shibuya crossing; really sweet story! Every day, this dog waited for his owner, a professor, at the Shibuya train station. He arrived at the station when the train would arrive and greet his owner, Ueno, until he passed away one day and never got back on the train home to meet his dog. Hachikō went to the train station for 9 years after Ueno died and became a national celebrity, before passing in 1935. 

The Kirin Beer Experience!  

Yum! They had this frozen foam on top of the beers. It was good, if a little strange. Apparently it's a Japanese innovation? 

A Farmer's Market in Shibuya! 

Meiji Shrine in Shibuya; the biggest Torii gate in the country, it's made from 1500 year old cypress trees.

Every year, wealthy locals send casks of sake as an offering to the shrine.

We got to see a bunch of Japanese wedding parties at the shrine! It was really cool!

We had DELICIOUS mojitos on the rooftop of this bar in Shibuya. It was beautiful! We watched the rain and crazy storm roll in, lightning, thunder and all.

We were walking quickly to get some dinner and get off the street before the rain. We walked into this insanely busy street. SO many people.
